A Big Mixed Bag of Bugs

God writes the Gospel, not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars. - Martin Luther.

And bugs.

And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. - Genesis 1:24-25 (ESV)

So, I've shot a bit more in the last few days, and thought I'd upload some of the results along with some food for thought (scroll up).

First, a few random shots.

And then this little guy. This is a Lacewing Nymph. Part of what you see is, anyway. The rest of what you see is debris which the nymph picks up and piles on top of itself; a method of camouflage which makes it appear much like leaf litter or bird dropping. Until it scurries along the leaf and the motion catches your eye.

Once this phase of life is complete, the nymph will morph into an adult. I once captured an adult Lacewing emerging from meta(?)morphosis, and documented it elsewhere (This was before I had a blog). If you would like to see that, go here: Emergence of a Lacewing

And finally, an adult Lacewing I found outside my door a few nights ago.

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do, and I also hope you remember to give credit where it is due (for the bug shots, at least): to our Wonderful Creator, our Father who made all things good; I just pushed a button.

  1. I am so glad that you can find a way to make the creepy crawlies, interesting and beautiful. Its hard to show love to all God's creatures when most of the little ones creep you out, so I appreciate your posts.

  2. Thanks, Leigh.

It gets much easier to appreciate them, once you start seeing the detail first hand, and then learning cool things about them.
