Some More Bugs

As I've mostly been shooting bugs, I guess I may as well put some here... This is a small selection of the last month or so.

Florals

While the bugs were away, due to wet weather, I took some close ups of flowers instead. I'm not sure on some of the names of these, but will name the ones I can.

My two little men (again)

I decided that it was time to take some new shots of my two boys after work yesterday.

Tomato Thief!

Our cherry tomato plant has been yielding fruit (oooh, controversy!) for a little while now, and this afternoon, Nik decided that he was going to sneak a "few" in before dinner.

Bugs, Bugs, and More Bugs

Well, the bugs are back, which is great if, like me, you find bugs to be interesting. If you don't, this entire post will probably be a little tiresome for you.

Recent Ramblings 2

I've had the camera out a bit lately, but haven't really done much "themed" shooting. I've tried my hand at a little Family Photo Journalism, also tried my hand at a few triptychs, and most recently shot a little bit of macro.

Cheree, Lookin' Good

It was Will and Krista's wedding yesterday, so everyone got their best clothes out, and dressed for the occasion. I couldn't let the opportunity pass to take a couple of photos of Cheree - she looked too good to let it slip ;)

Tom and Leigh - Pre-Wedding

As you might already know, I'll be shooting my first wedding later on this year, for Tom and Leigh.

About a week ago, we head off into Perth, for the morning, to have a pre-wedding shoot. After an enjoyable morning, we returned home with some pretty good results, of which I have selected the following to share.

Natural Light

Somehow, I managed to convince Nik to pose for a photo this afternoon (smiling is another matter). Somehow, I managed to get eye contact, and the tail end of a smile captured on camera from Isaac.

Recent Random Ramblings

Lately, I haven't really shot one specific thing, but bits and pieces of anything and everything.

Two Years on

As I mentioned in my previous post, yesterday, Nik has just had his second birthday.

Nik turns two!

Two years ago, we welcomed our first child into the world. Now, as I'm sure you're all aware, turning two is quite the big event; there's cakes to make, balloons to blow up, sugar to be consumed in unhealthy amounts, and loads of fun to be had.

Testing Time!

So, a new bit of kit arrived in the post yesterday. This, of course, meant that it was testing time.

Isaac Alexander, a Newborn Shoot

Having recently been blessed with a healthy son, I decided that the only thing to do was to take some photos of him.

Introducing...

Isaac Alexander, born on the 25th of June in the year 2011 AD.

This little man decided to make his appearance at 0214 in the morning, after an uncomplicated (although very quick) labour. All was, and has continued to be, well with both mum and bubs. We give thanks to our God and Father for this blessing.

Playing the Light

I had a bit of a play around with different lighting this afternoon...

Cohuna

We decided to take Nik out to the Cohuna Koala park today, and were joined by a couple of friends. Nik started off being very timid, and not very keen on going up to any of the animals, but in the space of about half an hour, that changed to not being able to drag him away from them, and every animal was subjected to an attempt at being force fed popcorn (that's what they give you to feed the animals, just with no butter or salt).

Finding a use for 17mm

Having recently acquired a new bit of kit, I immediately ran home and played with it, only to find myself wondering if I would ever really use the whole range which the lens provides. After all, I had become accustomed to shooting at 50mm or longer, and could not really see myself using anything shorter than, say, 24mm, even for a wedding.

BFT

So, Leon introduced me to the wonderful resource that is Neilvn's Tangents, and also pointed me towards the 'Black Foamie Thing'. We tried it, and both thought it was pretty good. Then, recently, Neil uploaded a video which shows how he uses it, and it opens up a whole range of options.

So I made one, and had a bit of a play this evening, with the only willing subject who was available.

Sundown

Yesterday really wasn't my day. After getting up super-early, only to return home with shots I could have achieved after waking at a normal time, I decided to try catch a sunset. So we headed off, out towards a spot which I had found out about via a forum which I frequent, where we met up with Leon and his family.

Ducks, Shallow Depth of Field, and a technique invented by a Mr Brenizier

I had planned to be posting photos from a sunrise shoot here, but it wasn't to be. I still awoke at 4:30am, and I was still out of the door by 4:50am, but I started heading inland, towards Karragullen, where I had done no scouting, nor knew of any locations. Oh, and the gates to the dams were all locked, as no-one is allowed to look at the water at night.

So much Chocolate!

A while back, my brother in law, Will, got himself engaged to Krista. As most of Krista's family live over in Canada, they asked me to take some photos to send back home.

I finally got around to editing them this week, and had a sudden craving for Death by Chocolate...

Caleb and Carlien

So, I got asked to do a photo shoot, to which I readily agreed. As the date approach, Caleb decided it would be a good idea to propose to Carlien. In front of a lot of people. But that's another story, which you have probably heard by now (if you haven't, read all about it right here).

A day at the Zoo

As it was a Saturday today, and we had no other plans, Cheree and I decided to take our son, Nik, to the Zoo. As Nik loves animals, we thought he would love it. And we were right. Even though he was completely beat at the end of the day - to the point where he was laying down in his pram between exhibits - he still got excited about every new animal we saw.
